Dr. Joey Tabarlet
Communication and Media Studies Department
Dr. Joseph O. (Joey) Tabarlet came to UMHB in 1995 and has been chair of the Department of Communication and Media Studies since that time.
Some of the classes taught by Dr. Tabarlet include Public Speaking, Persuasion, Introduction to Mass Media, Law and Regulation of the Mass Media, Introduction to Film Studies, Special Topics in Communication, and Communication Capstone. His research interests include the moral dimensions of film and depictions of significant historical events in mass media. He is a founding member of the Central Texas Film Society and acts as the host and discussant for monthly screenings of classic films at the Cultural Activities Center in Temple.
Dr. Tabarlet has served as President of the UMHB Faculty Assembly for two terms and has served on the Honors Committee, the Promotion and Tenure Committee and the Nominating Committee.
Dr. Tabarlet and his wife, Martha, live in Belton. Their daughter Libby is a 2017 graduate of UMHB and their son James lives in San Antonio with his wife Vana.
