Mrs. Heather L. Soto
I am a native New Yorker but now reside in Texas. My family is my husband, Eric, my stepdaughter Bella and my stepsons, Diego and Leo. We also have a chocolate “kleptomaniac” lab mix, Eli, and our rescue “super-fatty-mutt”, Lucy.
I earned my BA from Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell, S.D. in Secondary Education/English and a minor in Sociology; completed my MA in English at The University of South Dakota in Vermillion, S.D.; and, finally, earned my a Post-Masters Certificate in Educational Leadership from The State University of New York at Stony Brook, Stony Brook, N.Y.
My career began over twenty years ago as a high school English teacher in New York. During career, I also taught the College Credit Program through Long Island University and Syracuse University Project Advance classes. For the two years prior to moving to Texas, I was an adjunct instructor at the Ft. Polk, Louisiana's on-site campus of Central Texas College. After my husband’s retirement from twenty years of service in the Army, I was blessed enough to earn a teaching position at UMHB.
My expectations for my students are set high, as I believe people rise to their expectations but my goal in the classroom is to assist and guide my students to succeed and achieve their personal and academic goals. My time at UMHB has enabled me to see the standard of excellence set forth by the faculty and staff and student body. I am truly blessed and excited about my new position at UMHB.
