Bio

Born and raised right here in Belton, TX.  I spent the first 19 years of my life in this area before heading to Baylor University where I earned my Bachelor's Degree in Education with emphasis in Athletic Training in 1987.  I accepted the Head Athletic Trainer's position at Cedar Hill High School.  After three years, I had an opportunity to move back to Waco and worked as an athletic trainer in the clinical setting at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center.  After three years, Baylor University offered me an assistant athletic training position.  I served Baylor for almost 10 years as an athletic trainer and adjunct professor in the Health & Human Performance & Recreation Department.  My main duties at Baylor included overseeing the student athletic training recruitment program, working as the athletic trainer for both mens basketball and womens soccer.  While working at Baylor, I earned my Masters Degree in Education in 1997.   In 2002, Belton High School offered me a position and I was there from then until July of 2013.  Prior to attending Baylor University in 1984, I attended Temple Junior College (Temple College)  on a full music scholarship.  Since moving back to Belton, I have been a member of the Leon River Band.  We are a local band made up of five musicians/singers who play mostly classic and current country music as well as some classic rock (Eagles, Doobie Brothers, BTO)..... the good music :)

I am a Licensed Athletic Trainer (LAT) and also Nationally Certified (NATA).  My professional organizations include the National Athletic Trainers' Association, Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association, Texas State Athletic Trainers' Association and the Central Texas Athletic Trainers' Society.

My wife, Vicki (Smith) Pate, and I celebrated our 27th wedding anniversary and we share three wonderfully talented and beautiful children.  Tyler (22) will graduate from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor this spring. He is a three-year letter winner on the Cru's soccer team.  Tyler serves UMHB as a Student Ambassador and also serves at the External Vice-President on the SGA.  Courtney (21) is a junior at Baylor University where she competes on the Acrobatics & Tumbling Team.  Cassidy (18) is a senior at Belton High School and will graduate in June.  She is looking forward to her freshman year, in college, at Baylor University.

My hobbies include playing drums, calligraphy, playing golf, photography and attending as many events as I can to watch my children do what they love to do.  We are members of the Belton Church of Christ.
