Bio

Kathy Owens has been a full-time member of the Department of Communication and  Media Studies since the fall of 2005.  Before becoming full time, Ms. Owens taught for UMHB as a part-time instructor.  In addition to her teaching responsibilities, Ms. Owens coaches UMHB’s competitive speech team.  Before coming to UMHB, Ms. Owens was an instructor and the Director of Forensics at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.  Other previous experience includes teaching at St. Andrew’s Episcopal School, Mississippi College, Hinds Community College, Belhaven College, and Louisiana State University.  Ms. Owens earned her B.A. in Theatre Arts at Louisiana College and her M.A. in Speech Communication with an emphasis in Performance Studies from Louisiana State University.  She is A.B.D. toward her Ed.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Louisiana Tech University.
